چکیده

and maximum stress, Young’s modulus, energy absorption, and strain were determined. The bone density of the biopsies was determined by ashing. The strength, stiffness, energy absorption, and density of femoral head subchondral trabecular bone were significantly higher in OA patients than in OP patients. The quality of the subchondral trabecular bone was similar for OA and OP patients. The OP patients exhibited significantly higher bone resorption than OA patients, whereas the bone formation marker was similar in the two patient groups. OA patients had significantly higher serum zinc concentrations and significantly lower urine zinc concentrations than OP patients, whereas the bone zinc content did not differ. In conclusion, OA femoral head trabecular bone is stronger, stiffer, and denser than OP bone, whereas the bone quality does not differ. The study confirms the present view that OP and OA are inversely related. In particular, the finding that the zinc status of OP patients is significantly different from that of OA patients is new and adds further support to the view that osteoporosis and osteoarthritis rarely occur in the same individual. Relation between bone mineral density and serum ferritin levels in patients with thalassemia major

Background: Thalassemia/haemoglobinopathy is a hereditary disease with increased erythropoiesis and expansion of the bone marrow cavity. Consequently, there is a reduction in trabecular bone tissue resulting in osteopenia/osteoporosis. The present study was performed to determine bone mineral density (BMD) in children and adolescents with major thalassemia and its correlation with serum fer...

Evaluation of one third of distal radius bone density in patients with primary osteoporosis

Background: Osteoporosis is the most common metabolic disease of the bone in the world, and has hit about 200 million people around the world and it increases the risk of fractures. More than 5 million osteoporotic fractures occur annually in the world. Bone mineral density is the standard method of diagnosis of this disease. In this method, proximal of femur (neck) and lumbar vertebra bones (L...

Relationship between Helicobacter pylori infection (HP) and bone mineral density (BMD) in elderly people

Background: Low bone mass is a frequent complication of chronic inflammatory disease. The pathogenesis of osteoporosis in chronic inflammatory disease may be secondary to releases of cytokines such as TNF-a and IL6. Chronic gastritis due to helicobacter pylori (HP) infection may lead to decreased bone mineral density (BMD) and predispose patients to osteoporosis. The objective of this ...

The Relationship Between Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and Osteoporosis in Elderly People: a Cross-sectional Study

Diabetes mellitus (DM) and osteoporosis are common diseases and their prevalence increases with age. Several investigations have indicated that type 1 DM has a significant relationship with bone loss, whereas in type 2 diabetes, this relationship is controversial. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the relationship between osteoporosis and type 2 DM in elderly people. This populat...
